Substance analysis service: Is my coke pure?

Did you get your coke from someone new and want to make sure it’s as “good” as your old dealer’s? Did you find a baggie and want to know what’s in it? Did you use your dope and get unexpected effects? That’s what we’re here for!

We don’t want to burst your bubble, but pure coke isn’t that common. In fact, cutting agents are commonly added to bags to alter the effects, weight, or composition of the substance. Don’t cry, this doesn’t mean it’s a good or bad product.

SAS: What is it?

It’s our beautiful truck converted into a small lab! Our wonderful team can analyze your drugs for free, anonymously, and legally. Don’t worry, we’re special and have a legal exemption that protects you and your drugs, but only inside our truck! Our substance analysis van, the SAS (Substance Analysis Service), travels around the Montreal area several times a week to analyze substances and distribute consumption equipment.

Who is it for?

The service is open to everyone, without exception! Whether you are a young user, an occasional, regular, or daily user, we are always happy to welcome you.

What do we analyze?

We only analyze synthetic drugs, including substances on paper and/or liquids; We cannot analyze organic materials such as weed or mushrooms.

So how does it work in practice?

When you arrive at the van, you will be greeted by a staff member who will give you all the information about our service, offer you drug use equipment, and explain the analysis process. During the analysis, there will always be two staff members with you in the van: one of them will guide the process, assess which tests are relevant, answer your questions, and show you how to use fentanyl detection strips, which are distributed free of charge. The other staff member will analyze your drugs using a super machine: an infrared spectrometer, which will give us information about the composition of your substance. The process takes about 15 minutes on average, but if there are several samples, it may take a little longer.

What results can you expect?

A user comes to the testing service with cocaine and wants to know more about the composition of their drug. Here is what a test result might look like:

As we discussed, you expect to find cocaine in your substance. Using the spectrometer, we have identified that your substance contains caffeine and lactose at more than 5% each, which is the detection threshold. In other words, we cannot detect a substance that represents less than 5% of the total mass of the sample. Caffeine is a stimulant found in coffee and tea and is commonly used as a cutting agent. Although it occurs naturally, it carries risks. Caffeine can cause heartburn, anxiety, agitation, and can increase heart rate. Lactose, found in most dairy products, is used as a cutting agent because it is easily accessible, inexpensive, and resembles a white powder. Although it does not produce psychoactive effects, it can cause digestive discomfort. We were unable to identify cocaine in this sample, but this does not mean that it does not contain any. The sample may not be representative. You may also experience effects even if cocaine accounts for less than 5% of your baggie.
